Amazon's latest software update for the Colorsoft and Paperwhite introduces a new feature that enhances page navigation. The update allows users to double-tap on the sides or back of their Kindle to turn the page. This new feature, discovered in the release notes for the 5.18.1 update, can be accessed through the device's settings. Although the feature is currently limited to one direction, it has been suggested that future updates may expand its functionality.

Update Installation Process

While the update was not immediately available as an over-the-air update for the Kindle Colorsoft, users can manually download and install it by following Amazon's instructions. This process ensures that users can take advantage of the new feature as soon as possible.

Double-Tap Feature Functionality

The double-tap feature works well with relatively light taps anywhere on the Colorsoft. It requires two rapid taps, making it difficult to trigger accidentally. Currently, the feature can be used to jump to the next page or scroll down a long list of books. However, there is potential for future updates to expand this feature, possibly enabling triple-taps as a way to scroll up or go back to a previous page.

Device Compatibility

While the 5.18.1 software update is available for older versions of the Kindle, Paperwhite, Scribe, and Oasis, the new double-tap feature is exclusive to the Colorsoft and the 12th-generation Paperwhite. This was confirmed by Amazon spokesperson Connor Rice.
